About Barnham Opticians

Ellie Atkinson is a dedicated optometrist who started working with us in 2020. She works at Barnham on Fridays and initially worked as a medical physicist in radiation dosimetry research. Ellie qualified in 2006, and she has a particular interest in the optometric assessment of adults and children with learning disabilities and testing of binocular vision anomalies. In her spare time, she loves horses and going to Cornwall – where she always brings back some delicious Cornish pasties!

Eric Goddard works with us on Tuesdays. He grew up in East London, in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. He studied in Johannesburg School of Optometry and in 1992 moved to the UK and joined the British College of Optometry. He worked as an optometrist all over the UK until settling in East Sussex where  he lives with his wife Rona and their dog, Haggis whom they rescued from Romania. He enjoys travelling with his wife and they have previously worked all over Eastern Europe. Eric joined the team at Barnham Opticians in 2016

Helen Helyer started working with us in 2018. She works on Thursdays and is a highly qualified optometrist who has worked in hospitals and independent practices. Helen's specialist areas are low vision and keratoconus. In her spare time, she loves gardening, being with her family, and spending time on the family farm.

Jodi Barter is a qualified optometrist who has been with our practice since 2020. Jodi works on Mondays and Wednesdays. At 14, she had a careers lecture and knew she wanted to be an optometrist. She qualified in 1994 and completed her resident optician training at D & A Chichester, where she met Mandy. Jodi loves her cats!

Mandy Corbett is the business owner. She started working in optics at D & A in Chichester in 2004 when her son started school. She is passionate about eye health and loves styling people into fantastic glasses. She loves animals and in her spare time she likes cooking, eating out, painting and walking her dog Brodie. She did her instore dispensing exams at D & A in 2007 and also got a level 2 NVQ in Optical retailing. She qualified with her degree as a fully-fledged Dispensing Optician in 2016 and opened her first shop in 2012

Simon Betney works with us on Saturdays. He has worked with us since 2017 and is an expert in optics, having been in the industry since 1994. He did retinal research work at Sussex eye hospital, before doing MSC research on temperature changes in the cornea during corrective laser surgery. When he's not watching football or listening to music, Simon enjoys cooking and eating out.

Tony Corbett, is the Finance & Marketing Manager and joint owner with Mandy of Barnham Opticians. He started the company with Mandy in 2012 and worked part-time and then in 2017 joined on a full-time basis. On a day-to-day basis, Tony deals with finance and marketing. He attends a weekly local business networking group and other business networking events to build relationships and share ideas with other local entrepreneurs. He loves walking with his partner and their dog Eddie.
