    Understanding Single Vision Lenses

In the world of vision correction, single vision lenses are the basis for most prescription lenses..

If you can read a book clearly, but things far away are out of focus, then you are near sighted and ‘distance’ lenses can help with this.
Likewise, if you can see things the other side of the road clearly, but you cant read a book, you are far sighted and ‘near vision’ lenses can help.

Single vision lenses are the most common type of prescription lenses used. Because they only correct a single type of vision, i.e reading or distance, they have a single uniform prescription across the entire area of the lens.
    Single Vision Lenses

Some people need only distance or reading glasses and have only have the one pair. Some people require both reading and distance glasses which can mean they need to carry two pairs of glasses and swap back and forth depending on what they are doing.

This differs from multifocal lenses, which combine near and far vision in a single lens.
